Base stations support 40 handsets per channel x 470 000 infrastructure chipsets
= 18 800 000 handsets supported. So there is going to be a lot of spare capacity or there are going to be lots more handsets made.

Is my arithmetic right? There is going to be quite a lot of feedback soon if all those go into service and don't just get used as in LA by AirTouch in some kind of totem poles. But production will grow so quickly that these figures are going to be irrelevant by the end of the year. They mainly serve as a guide to how many customers are convinced it is the way to go [albeit with performance guarantees]. It isn't just wishful thinking anymore.
