First, I have no burble to burst. Second, you seem to lack the most basic fundamentals of the PC industry. To use your own words, I hate to burst your burbles, but the data you referred to is not very credible. Any individual or company can sponsor a research and obtain any desired results. As for getting educated, I don't believe I need any further education. Chances are, I am twice as educated as you are, and besides, I have been in the technology field longer than you have probably been alive. You sound more like a guy who is married to a stock, oblivious to marketing blunders. Remember IOMEGA?.
To answer some of the points you raised, I visit ten to fifteen offices weekly in my line of work. I can tell you that very few of the big ones use the proliant. Most use IBM AS400 and HP for back-end operations. Proliant however is used mainly by small to mid sized companies. But DELL is slowly joining the fray and IBM has redesigned the AS400. If DEC was so good, why did they go under?. DEC had the same problem as NOVELL. The had a decent product that was over priced and loaded down with a bunch of add-ons.
Your lack of knowledge of high end PC is Laughable. If you had a basic knowledge of this field, you would have known that the major difference between most high-end workstations and off the shelf PC has to do with the graphics and cache size. (see PCWEEK of 4 weeks ago). Additionally, most high-end workstations have symmetric processors and run on Sun Solaris powered by RISC. Admitted, RISC is a better architecture than INTEL, but how many of your friends use it?
Your analogy of Peterbilt and U-Haul is dumb. Paying more does not necessarily mean a better product. In the Computer field, it is known that both APPLE and LINUX are better than WINDOWS operating system. But where are the other two compared to Microsoft.? Personally, I use Linux, but I have no investments in Caldera or Apple. Sound Marketing is the key. You can have the best product in the world, but if it is badly marketed, it will fail. I am not bearish on CPQ, but they need to get their act together. Return on investments is what this game is about and not who is no 1 or 100. As Harrigan said, only time will tell.

Ben.
