The USA government decrees that we are aliens. If there is life out there, who cares? Say they are some kind of mudworm, so what? Say they are some kind of souped up cyborg with amazing powers - do we really want to show up looking like some easily consumed, furless food supply - I prefer they remain unaware of me - a bit like a turkey is wise to not strut around near Thanksgiving.
