Khalil, Nope, they will approve anyone who is considered halfway decent, which means somebody from Congress. <G> That's how Nixon got Gerry Ford approved after Spiro bit the dust. It would have to be somebody kind of dumb and non-threatening and a guy everyone sort of likes in that semi-retarded uncle sort of way. Like Moynihan. Nobody with a lot of political potential or ambition, e.g. Gephardt or Bill Bradley could pass muster. Needless to say, this person would be as much of a lame duck as Ford was.

Republicans might want to see a Prez from their side of the aisle, but I don't think they would want to see Newt in place. His brand of craziness and dishonesty in the White House would destroy the party forever. He's fine as foot-in-mouth speaker and tough love dude, but nobody considers him executive material. Or even Senate material.
