Oracle Demonstrates Market Leadership With Key First Quarter Deals

PR Newswire - September 10, 1998 16:45

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Continuing to lead as the provider of choice for business-critical applications, Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq:
ORCL) today announced strategic deals with world-class companies in the first quarter of its fiscal year ending August 31, 1998. Oracle's integrated technology
solutions, including applications, database and development tools, helped Oracle's numerous customers meet key business objectives and strengthen their
competitive advantage.

In the first quarter, Oracle signed a number of significant deals worldwide including Union Bank of California, Airtouch, Atmos Energy, Arch Mineral, Cincinatti Bell
Information Systems/Matrix, EMC Corporation, CMS Energy Corporation, Minute Maid, Ford Motor Company, Insight Enterprises Inc., Compaq, Telia, WEA
(Warner/Elektra/Atlantic Corporation), and Holien, Inc.

"This was an exciting quarter that included several new customers and competitive wins," said Ray Lane, President and Chief Operating Officer. "Our growth in
database marketshare is accelerating as we begin to deliver Oracle 8i, the database for the Internet, and the competitive wins in applications indicate progress from
our Q1 investments in training and marketing supporting Release 11."

The ANZA, Inc., group of manufacturing companies is representative of mid-sized organizations that support Oracle(R) Applications and the move to
Internet-based computing systems. A holding company with more than $100 million in revenues, Watertown, S.D.-based ANZA chose Oracle over six finalists,
including Baan, PeopleSoft and J.D. Edwards. The deal includes a full complement of Oracle Applications running on Oracle8, including Human Resources, Payroll,
Financials, Manufacturing, Projects, Sales Analyzer and Financial Analyzer.

"The superior functionality and versatility of Oracle's manufacturing solution will improve our ability to serve our customers," said Dan Gabriel, director of information
systems at ANZA, which includes manufacturers Midcom, Inc., Persona, Inc. and OEM Worldwide, Inc. "Oracle increases our flexibility by at least five-fold over
our legacy systems, and supports a rapid implementation that will lower our cost of doing business. In addition, Oracle's Web interface means client maintenance will
be minimal and we'll reduce leased line charges associated with managing our North American and international operations."

Oracle also had a strong showing in all of its international regions. In Europe, Oracle was selected by Equifax and Postbank Data GmbH. In the Asia Pacific region,
Oracle software was selected by the Bank of China, Civil Aviation Administration of China, Boral, Woolworths Ltd, and FAI Life Insurance.

Oracle Corporation is the world's leading supplier of software for information management, and the world's second largest software company. With annual revenues
of $7.5 billion, the company offers its database, application server, tools and application products, along with related consulting, education and support services, in
more than 140 countries around the world.
