CORRECTED - Novell to distribute Microsoft product

Reuters Story - September 10, 1998 18:08

In the PROVO, Utah September 9 story headlined "Novell distributes products on Microsoft Explorer," in the headline read "Novell to distribute Microsoft Explorer
with its products."

In the first paragraph beginning "Novell Inc., which provides ..." read "Novell Inc. said on Wednesday it agreed to distribute Microsoft's Internet Explorer with its
products," ... instead of "Novell agreed to distribute its products on Microsoft's Internet Explorer."

In the sixth paragraph beginning "Novell's products have been ..." read "Novell's products will also continue to include Netscape's Communicator" ... instead of
"Novell's products have been included on Netscape's Communicator."

A corrected version follows.

PROVO, Utah, Sept 9 (Reuters) - Novell Inc. , which provides computer network software, said on Wednesday it agreed to distribute Microsoft Corp.'s Internet
Explorer, the software giant's web browser, with its products.

This agreement includes Novell's NetWare 5, its directory- enabled and pure Internet protocol platform that allows companies to manage and deploy network
applications.

Internet Explorer is the subject of a landmark antitrust suit filed against Microsoft by the federal government and 20 states.

Microsoft is accused of using its Windows system monopoly, the crucial operating software on over 90 percent of the world's personal computers, to seize control
of the lucrative software market for Internet browsers.

"When 90 percent of the Web browser market is owned by either Microsoft or Netscape, it just makes sense to give customers both Web navigation options," said
Christopher Stone, senior vice president, strategy and corporate development for Novell, in a statement.

Novell's products will also continue to include Microsoft rival Netscape Communication Corp.'s Communicator web browser.

"This agreement ... signifies our willingness to put competitive jockeying aside if it means delivering a better solution to our customers," added Stone.

Novell expects its NetWare 5 to be available for shipment by September 20.
