While the USA is capturing attention with rapid roll-out of CDMA all over the place, look what is happening in Russia, which is part of Europe, which is GSM HQ. Looks like there might be an invasion of Europe starting from Russia, but technology based. Ericsson better watch out. I imagine that Russia would be keen to build CDMA infrastructure. Nice cheap pay rates and educated people over there together with an enormous market.

Moscow Operator Selects QUALCOMM To Supply CDMA Digital Mobile and Wireless Local Loop System to Serve Moscow Oblast and Moscow

December 19, 1996 - QUALCOMM Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM), a wireless communications leader and the developer of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) technology, today announced that it has been selected by JSC Personal Communications of Moscow, Russian Federation to supply a CDMA wireless communications system with the capacity to serve up to 300,000 subscribers. Negotiations of the definitive, multi-year contract are underway and will cover the supply of QUALCOMM's CDMA digital mobile and wireless local loop infrastructure equipment, network planning and installation services.
