Rudedog ... I have fond recollections of that era and before especially working on 1401s (incl sense switches) and RCA 401s and 501s ..debugging in the 3rd basement of Chase Manhattan Plaza at 3:00 by going through machine instructions 1 by 1. BTW, the storage media for the RCA 401s was magnetic tape with 20 min rewind time and the system I was responsible for had to make 3 complete passes -- late nights/early mornings -- frustration when your machine shot was @ 3am and the Chase checkrun ran late as it often did and you were bumped. As well, the PDP-10 with Berkely's time-sharing ability and 4K running room (8K if you ranBIG) much better than GE's 245/265. And spending time over at the Sperry building watching something primitive use a new input media -- cards</> -- metal ones that is ... 2-3 times a day the operators had to move the card reader back across the room because each time one of the metal cards was read the reader jumped 1 foot across the room ... fun, fun times ... many, many more stories ... I got into the "field" in 1962. Noone seems to be commenting on the 1 1/2 point move UP by CPQ at/after today's close ... I, for one, am IMPRESSED. Michael
