Biker Blow-ups or Hell's Angels revs up its war machine

MONTREAL(CP)- The Hell's Angels are cranking up their war machine, a top police expert said after a leader of the rival Rock Machine gang was shot dead in his home. The death of Johnny Plescio, one of the founders of the Rock Machine bike gang, came nearly six weeks after Rock Machine leader Richard (Bam-Bam) Lagace was killed. Plescio was found slain in his home Tuesday killed by several gunshots. Lagace was gunned down July 30 outside his health club. The Hell's Angels "seem to be quite serious" and even more violence can be expected said the police expert, Jean-Pierre Levesque of Criminal Intelligence Service Canada. "For a long time they were going after the knees (of the Rock Machine), now they're going for the head," he added. More than fifty people have died in the past four years in the war between the Rock Machine and the Hell's Angels for control of the lucrative illegal-drug trade in Quebec. A member of Plescio's family found his body less than 24 hours after a burned-out car with two machine guns in the back seat was discovered in the same Montreal neighborhood. A burned out car is often the signature of a crime committed by one of the gangs. Plescio, 34, described a Rock Machine strong-arm man, had convictions for narcotics, criminal harassment and intimidation. Two other Rock Machine leaders - Giovanni Cazzetta, 41, and Gilles Lambert, 42 - are in prison while a third man, Fred Faucher, heads the gang's activities around Quebec City. They could be the next targets Levesque said. "We expect more attempts. I think the Hell's are really out to get the heads of the Rock Machine"
