Brussels, Sept. 11 (Bloomberg) -- The Brussels government has chosen seven companies to submit final bids for a license to build and operate the Brussels Intranet, a broad-band telecommunications network serving the Belgian capital, L'Echo reported, citing unnamed sources. The short-listed bidders include British Telecommunications Plc, WorldCom Inc., Colt Telecom Group Plc, France Telecom SA, Unisource NV, Telinfo SA, and dominant Belgian operator Belgacom SA, and the winner will be chosen early next year, the paper said. The network is an effort to improve communication between Brussels public institutions and citizens, the paper said.
The regional government of Wallonia, Belgium's French- speaking southern region, in May chose a Belgacom-led group to operate the Wallonia Intranet, a similar regional project.
