From what I understand, it's good enough for Tandem to get UB off their books. If they make money on the deal, that's fine too. From the sound of things, I don't think it will add up to much, however. Funny that Tandem took a 3/4-point hit today. It had ramped up over the last few days (probably on anticipation of today's announcement), so I guess the old sell-on-the-news approach to investing holds true in this case. Over the long term, unloading UB should add a lot to Tandem's bottom line. I believe 1997 will be the year of Tandem's turnaround. They have everything in place to capitalize on web commerce, home-banking, and so on.
