I have been lucky. But I did do things for a reason, whether reasonable or not <g>. As I have said to someone on the DELL thread I have also lost a lot of money on worthlessly (?) expired options. I'm not trying to say I can time perfectly, and I know you are not saying that I think that, but that your time horizon seems a bit long to be betting against the market. Long term bet that it will go up has historically been shown to be right. Short term bets short seem safer than long term bets short.
You have also said that you review and amend your positions regularly so what I'm saying is probably redundant, but from a lot of your other posts it doesn't come across.
I think what I was trying to say was that I think that John Rosser was correct about being long DELL vs. long gold and that it was possible to have seen that 1st half of 97, once it got going, was ok to be in stock as opposed to hedging with gold.
