NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Leading personal computer makers are poised to benefit from the same strong demand that led Intel to forecast a stronger than expected third quarter.
Compaq Computer Corp. (CPQ) is seeing the same positive trends that are boosting Intel's fortunes, an executive told CNNfn on Thursday. North America and Europe "look good" for Compaq in the current quarter, said John Rose, senior vice president of the company. Those areas were cited by Intel in its disclosure Thursday of a stronger earnings outlook.
Compaq is Intel's largest customer. Rose acknowledged that Asia remains a difficult area, but he said even within that region, China, India and Malaysia are bright spots.
kewise, Dell Computer Corp. (DELL) is having a "great" third quarter in spite of economic and financial turmoil around the world, Chairman Michael Dell said Thursday, the Reuters news service reported.
"The third quarter is going great and there is no change in our outlook from what we said at the end of the second quarter," Dell told reporters in Dallas, where he spoke at an economic forum.
He did not give further details, but said he did not expect economic crisis in Asia and turmoil in the world's financial markets to drag down his company's growth.
"It is true that some of these markets might be in a period of economic contraction, but that doesn't mean Dell can't grow even in that period," he said.
Dell has consistently exceeded expectations for its growth.
