I don't understand why a president's dalliances have anything to do with a stock's price. Great point, Alomex.

In actuality, it shouldn't. But the market is driven by psychological factors as well as technical ones, and if investors become alarmed that the leader of the free world is politically unstable, it causes panic. Panic in the stock market translates to massive selling.

It's the same reason I plan to pull out of the market in the middle of next year. I believe fear of the Y2K bug and general uneasiness about the approaching millennium will cause others to pull out of the market around that time, causing big sell offs. I don't believe there will actually be much problem with the Y2K bug when 2000 rolls around, but fear drives the stock market as much as anything, and can affect it greatly.
