I still disagree on the encryption part though. In order to achieve comparable level of security, I still think the scan would need to be encrypted. I am not a hacker, but I know that they can be pretty creative, and I would doubt that someone who intercepts a digital fingerprint could find a way to fool a computer into thinking it was real... either by altering it slightly, or by some other method...

Also, I am not convinced that biometrics will not be percieved as too invasive for widespread use. There is also no way (to the best of my knowledge) to make a back up one's fingerprint...

In addition, I think the costs are still prohibitively high for mainstream use (correct me if i'm wrong)...
