FYI:

ROCKWELL TO ACQUIRE PORTION OF CIRRUS LOGIC SUBSIDIARY, PCSI --
Rockwell International said it will lay out $18.1M for the assets of the
Wireless Semiconductor Products group of Pacific Communication Sciences,
Inc. (PCSI), the San Diego-based subsidiary of Cirrus Logic. The move
confirms earlier Wall Street rumblings that cash-rich Rockwell was in
acquisition talks with Cirrus (Today's EN, Aug. 16, Aug. 23). The group
supplies about half of the four million digital cordless Personal Handyphone
System (PHS) handsets into the market, and is making chipsets for the
Digital European Cordless Telephone (DECT) market and personal Air
Communications Technology (pACT) two-way messaging systems. Rockwell will
fold the group into its Semiconductor Systems wireless communications
division. Last month, Cirrus sold the Wireless Infrastructure Group of PCSI
to ADC Telecom for $23M (EN, Nov. 14). Following the acquisition by
Rockwell, PCSI will consist only of the Subscriber Unit Group, which makes
PAL (personal access link) phones and the Ubiquity wireless and wireline
modems. Rockwell Semiconductor: 714 221-6849.
