Just finished speed reading the Starr report. <g> Sort of. <g>

No smoking gun. Obstruction case weak. Clinton's defense on perjury is very technical as we know, but not absolutely refuted, except by a he said/she said with Lewinsky. (Keep in mind that the Supreme Court has said that it is not perjury to intentionally mislead, if you do not bright line lie.) The outright lie according to Starr is that the Pres. engaged in (gasp) breast kissing, and manual v*****a touching, including with the famous cigar. (No mangos.) (The report is not so delicate.) A determination of that weighty matter would require a trial on those details. The salacious detail would not shock many people who have seen borderline R movies.

The thing reads like a Puritan recitation of each instance of sinful relation. Very sanctimonius.

We're left with a good but not iorn clad case of perjury in the Jones case. (Factual dispute on exactly the sort of sex that they had.) The alleged grand jury perjury is basically piling on the alleged civil perjury. Was asked if he had perjured himself.

On a (very) quick reading The abuse of office case is laughable. (Abused by misusing claims of privelege, etc. Give us a break; he can openly assert anything he wants for the courts to decide.)

This is a whole lot less bad than I had expected. I think after a bit that will be the general reaction. Although people will be slow to say it at first, for fear of condoning adultery and skirting the truth.

My take is the President's worst problem is actually continuing to maintain that he didn't have "sexual relations" as claimed. Certainly he and his advisors should admit upfront that they intended to skirt and avoid the issue, and in fact be misleading. At least.

Censure.
