Hello Paul,

There has been some speculation that Intel may acquire a networking company (ie. 3Com). While I think that 3Com would not be a logical choice, I was wondering if you thought it would be a bright move for Intel to acquire a larger networking company? A big fellow like 3com would surely knock down their gross margins (ie. no need for them). Do you think its ridiculous that people even question if they might?

My own fantasy kind of would like to see them acquire a SMALLER fellow like MRVC who has an existing relationship with Intel and they could probably get on the cheap now that they have been slaughtered. With a low priced, cheap End-to-End supplier (enterprise to edge --ethernet and atm) of networking equipment (and just big enough to make a dent), Intel could start to do to the large networker equipment guys (csco, bay/nt, fore) what they did to 3Com in adapter cards (ie. lower prices significantly, making networks much cheaper, thereby selling more CPUs)...am I nuts?

all imho
