If the layoffs were truly for competitiveness and not because of any slowdown in core business,

It is definitely to reduce cost. Our mfg floor is still crowded. We're closing the wireless mfg building and moving it/farm it out to France. Also, since we're building three huge buildings in the area, we want to get rid of the many buildings we lease. We also inherited 8,000 "resources" from Bay.

These are rumors, but I'll bet a nickle on it.
