Korea's DRAM Makers Cut Production in Early September

September 10, 1998 (TOKYO) -- The three main Korean makers of dynamic random
access memory (DRAM) microchips, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., Hyundai
Electronics Industries Co., Ltd. and LG Semicon Co., Ltd., are each cutting their
DRAM production for about a week, Nikkei Electronics learned.
LG Semicon stopped operations of its DRAM microchip production lines Sept. 2 and
Samsung Electronics did the same from Sept. 6. Hyundai Electronics plans to start
reducing production Sept. 10.

Samsung and Hyundai have curtailed production in the four months since June. LG cut
its output in July and August.

Prices of 64Mb synchronous DRAM microchips conforming to the PC100
specifications are maintaining the August levels in the U.S. and Asian markets, thanks in
part to the reductions made by the Korean producers, said DRAM marketing officials
at Hyundai and LG.
