Re Starr's responsibilities...

He was originally appointed to investigate Whitewater at the behest of the leadership of a DEMOCRATIC Senate. If McDougal hadn't died, his wife hadn't clammed up and Hubble hadn't backed out of his plea agreement Bill and Hillary would be long gone if not in jail.

When Travelgate started Reno and the three judge panel gave it to Starr instead of appointing another IC.

When Filegate started Reno and the three judge panel gave it to Starr instead of appointing another IC.

When Tripp brought the tapes to Starr he took them to the panel and Reno who gave the case to Starr instead of appointing another IC.

If, as it seems from your comments, you think Starr has abused his power I fail to see the basis for this claim. A prosecutor follows the evidence in a case where ever it goes. That is the nature of the job.

Finally, the idea that the subject about which a sitting President perjures himself somehow mitigates the obvious fact of perjury is a bit silly. Every time he lied under oath he violated the Oath of Office where he swore before God to uphold the Constitution and the laws of the land. This is not a minor infraction but is an assault on the very basis of our society which is that we all live under the same rule of law whether we are a homeless schmuck on the street or the (temporary) occupant of the highest office in our government.
