The new term they use for this situation on Court TV is "perjury trap", its where someone is confronted about an issue that everybody lies about (such as extramarital affairs) in a legal setting, where that issue has nothing to do with the real matter being investigated, and the person in question chooses to lie about the matter ("white lie") in an attempt to get it to go away. It is not a calculated deliberat attempt to deceive really, however later if this issue is revisited then sure, you can call it perjury.
