Ron,

there is something about Clinton that is pertinent, that being the ability of the government to manipulate the masses. This keeps the herd moving in an orderly fashion or in common terms, stability and growth.

As an example, the polls repeatedly show that the American People believes Clinton is doing a good job, good for the economy, worthy causes, etc. I have conducted an informal poll myself and I suggest you all do the same. Simply ask the question what do you think Bill Clinton actually did that was so good (or bad)? The result is as predicted, no one can name anything concrete. I am not being critical because I can't name anything either.

Then why do the masses think Clinton is doing a good job? It is because slick Willy keeps telling the world he is and have all his cronies do the same. You repeat the same thing enough times and people will believe you.

The same holds true for Greenspan and Rubin. I think Greenspan has one of the easiest jobs in the world. He has few options and the decisions are often obvious. As for Rubin, just like Clinton, I can't think of anything, good or bad, that I can attribute directly to him. Both, however, are now being pumped up as the saviors of the modern world. Some even opined that if one or both quit, the stock market will crash.

We have been wrecking our brains here, wondering what type of policies will finally provide a cure for the Asian and now global flu. May be we should just pump up a few individuals here and there to god-like status. They will lead their respective people to salvation.

Unfortunately, the most important "sales job" lies in Japan. The government has lost its ability to manipulate the people and herd them in a direction for the common good.

Whether it is justified or not, the masses need a figure head to lead them. Clinton may or may not be impeached but his value as a figure head is definitely gone. I think the stock market will be paying the price in months ahead.
