Mary, re: "I am outraged"

Me too, but for different reasons. My *most important* issue is that we live in a world where two different trends have merged to create what I consider an uncivilized, rude and destructive intrusion into the privacy of citizens. First, there is a feeling that because someone has dedicated their life to public service, their entire private life is subject to investigation, including having a professional prosecutor and his staff spend 4 1/2 years looking into every aspect of his life. I don't know how many folks would stand up to that level of scrutiny. Second, the ability and willingness (of self-serving politicans and officers of the court) to share the unpleasant details of a personal transgression with the world, without rebuttal. This capability, in the hands of a real tyrant with real power (Joseph McCarthy comes to mind), is scary. I don't feel at all comfortable with the present situation, but I am more concerned by what this portends for the future.

As to your feelings about Clinton and his actions, I respect your opinions, and really don't want to debate all the legal BS, or the many unproven suppositions. It goes to my previous point that it's not really a discussion that I believe people should be having on a public web site. Everyone will have a different opinion based on their mindset, I could try to debate you point by point but I suspect we wouldn't change each others minds.

At any rate, I think the country is a little less civilized and honorable, a little less "free" today than it was yesterday. That was the point I was most trying to make, and I'm sorry that I got you more "worked up".

John
