Hiram, Reagan lied about Contra funding

Given the man's medical condition, when Ronald Reagan testified that he had no recollection of specific events surrounding the affair - I tend to believe him <g>

The Iran-Contra Affair was obviously a clear violation of American law. I cannot defend it.

Bush lied about Iraq that we were there to save democracy.

I'd argue that he attempted to rally public support while pursuing a necessary strategic objective.

Lyndon Johnson lied about everything including the invasion of a foreign country Vietnam and why we were there.

To this day, I am amazed that history has been so kind to LBJ.

I am also far more impressed with Jimmy Carter's post-White House career than his time spent in the Oval Office.

They may lie, but IMHO it's important to identify lies as such and then move to underlying policy considerations.

Clinton lying to the American people a second time at the very moment when all eyes were focused on him - that's just nowhere near "noble lie" territory.

Good trading,

Tom
