ahhaha,

>> ION is an impressive offering and it would be unthinkable for the new ATT to let it go unchallenged.<<

This reminds me in a way of the press wars between the cablecos and the BOCs during the early 90s culminating in no one getting bought after the TCOMA-BEL fiasco, after all was said and done (until recently). And nothing moving at all in the sector, after all of the players spent billions waffling from one platform to the next, over and over, until here we are today.

I don't think that FON's ION is immediately achievable, since it is extremely difficult to orchestrate considering the technologies they intend deploying (IP over ATM over DSL over...metallic voice), and with the cast of characters it needs to succeed. Anything that T puts on the menu to counteract FON will be equally unattainable until it is near, or at, the stage of obsolescence.

These are the hugest aircraft carriers afloat, so they don't have the speed, the agility or the freedom to move quickly, and equally important is this: the rest of the world who they depend on for getting things done is against them!

At lease FON intends to reuse/resell the BOCs facilities, which will allow them a certain level of support. T, OTOH, is hoping to deploy full-scale end-office functionality while bypassing the LECs entirely. I like the sound of that, but wow! And to think that they will be going into this with still untried solutions. Hope Mom hasn't forgotten how to run real end-office processes in a totally new and convoluted environment. All I can benevolently say to my Alma Mater, T, in this regard is: Good Luck in Surviving the Transition Period!

JMHO, and Regards, Frank Coluccio
