doug,
i think win386 is your swap file. not a bug, and shouldn't be deleted. but on the subject of whether or not it's a bug, don't you have any virus protection software running in the background, or that you can manually start a virus scan with?

back to win386... i'm thinking that maybe you are not letting windows manage your virtual memory settings. follow this clickstream and see what your settings are: start, settings, control panel, system, performance, virtual memory. if you are specifying your own virtual memory settings, i recommend checking the box that allows windows to manage them. you'll then have to reboot for the changes to take effect.

i may be completely off base with the virtual mem thing, but win386 is your swap file, and it changes all the time.

good luck,
mr.mark
