"The quality of your connection to the ISP, the telephone network, many things can adversely effect performance on any given day." bill, i'd like to add to this very good point of yours, by passing along a fine strategy i picked up from some good traders in #daytraders. it's a good idea to have 3 isp's if possible, all with different network backbones. that way the trader virtually assures him/herself of getting online if there's probs with mci or att or sprint, etc. i now have a recently installed cable modem and 3 dial-up isp's to fall back on. i may drop one of the dial-ups, but at $20 a month...i can afford to see who is giving me the most reliable connection over time. the technology is definitely imperfect, and a degree of finese does begin to enter into the equation when you're trying to get it all to run seamlessly :) happy trades, mr.mark
