JT,

You haven't mentioned the baud rate of your ISP. A bad ISP goes a long way to limiting output. Having said that, I have been switching from my virtual 56K connect back to my Earthlink 28.8 in the middle of the day with few problems.

I have a PII400 with 128mb SRAM, Shotgun dual Modem (with 28.8 running on each) and dual monitors/video cards. One card carries 8mb and the other 16 mb.

Your resource meter SHOULD NOT be under 25% with the RAM you have. Have you ever investigated what programs are starting up each time you turn on Windows?? When I got my Gateway and loaded my regular software, I had 21 programs opening on start up, a lot I never knew about. Now I have 8.

You likely need to tweak out your PC and dump a lot of garbage. Control + Alt + Delete will show your open programs. Programs get their start up commands from either the START MENU in the windows directory, a load= command in win.ini, the system.ini or the registry. All can be easily accessed except the registry, which is the PIA of the Win 95/98 OS.

If you go to: winmag.com you can test a lot of your PC functions. Also win98 has a great utility called a System Information Tool that allows you to selectively dump out start up programs without losing them.
