"The other point mentioned by IDC's Roger Kay was that Apple's sales
volume may well double in the third quarter (they meant this quarter),
giving Apple the highest marginal growth rate that quarter.....I am a little confused about his estimate. If Apple could double its sales
volume, then it should reach more than 1m units, unless iMac has more
than 600k sales."

I think the comment by IDC's Roger Kay may have been misinterpreted. At first glance it does seem like the comments suggest that they expect unit shipment to double in third quarter (Apple's Q4 98), but reading it more closely I don't think that's the article explicitly states whether the comment about doubling unit shipment was in reference to current Q4 98 or Q1 99 ending December.

Here is the original article:

If we can sustain this momentum through Christmas I think Apple can ship around 1 million units NEXT quarter (Q1 99 ending in December). As for the current quarter...while I do believe that we'll see tremendous growth in unit shipment (I've made a couple posts back in July stating this belief) I don't think we'll come anywhere close to doubling our unit shipment just yet.
