The Economist is unfortunately right. I hope Clinton reads the editorial.

If he values what's left of his political legacy he would resign and give his reasons: I cannot govern effectively; the dignity of my office must be restored; the country should not be burdened with further acrimony and division over my fate; and finally the world as a whole faces the most serious economic crisis in decades and a crippled US President lacks the necessary means to deal with it. If he does this, I think he would regain the respect and admiration of the American people and their allies.
