Bill -

Just like any religious belief, if you try to tell a Y2K cultist that your company does not have any y2K related problems or that any problems are trivial and will not impact business, then they scream you're in denial or trying to hide something.

May I safely assume from your lack of response to my earlier questions that you have no substantive response? No defense?

I was pleased (disappointed?) that you didn't include me with North, Robertson & Co. <wink>

You are correct that religious extremists are really gearing up to wrap themselves in Y2K sack cloth...promises to get ugly.

Now about that software issue...I claim that I've had a pretty intense look into the (software) engine rooms of the Fortune 1000 over the past decade & things really don't look very nice.

Maintenance has always been a dirty word.

We deluded ourselves in the mid '80s with the pipedream of rewriting the nasty legacy systems with CASE tools...didn't happen.

Then we realized CASE was a fantasy & the right way to go was to replace those stupid mainframes with desktop, client-server systems...funny, that didn't happen either.

Then we laid off hordes of knowledgeable people in the BPR frenzy...

Now we're staring at the mother of all maintenance tasks & only have 16 months to go.

Please to inform me how we're going to squeeze thru? Close our eyes, cross our fingers & hold our breath?

Please to inform me why the SOFTWARE part of Y2K is a hoax?

- David
