That may or may not be true, depending on the poll. Many legal scholars agree that what Clinton has done does easily qualify as impeachable offenses.

An interesting historical note, George Will reminded everyone that at a similar stage in the Watergate scandal fewer people were for impeachment than there are now for Clinton's offenses. In fact, during Watergate, impeachment was not favored by a majority until the very end, after many weeks of hearings.

There will be hearings, and as Will said, the hearings will inform public opinion, not the reverse.
