RE Eric
While I must agree that he was a wealth of information, the ethnic slurs were unneeded, uncalled for, and simply wrong.
I though, am of the camp that must believe "Sir, I agree with not a thing you say but will defend to the death your right to say it".
I, in my own life, am still dealing with the effects of a series unforseeable events.
While growing up in the 60's & 70's I was (somehow) infected with truth and started to see the ugly racism of my family, for what it was. Then a miracle happened, in early '76 I met and went to work for the smartest man I have ever known, Kermic Powell, who happens to be black. The third event happened at the time of my father's death, he died from complications of scardiosis(sp). I found out that this disease occurs almost only in black women over 40 or black men over 70. Almost the only cases documented in whites have been in those of mixed race.
This event has led to a journey in self-discovery. I now know why there are number of black people in the deep south named Harmon. I also learned why my great-great grandfather arrived in New Mexico (after the war between the states) and would say nothing of his past. suddenly physical signs in my father, brother, and myself
fell somehow more in place.
It seems there is a long history of the most biggoted people in the old west were those who were "passin".
While I respected Eric, for his "golden" contributions, his
"off-color" remarks are not missed.
Eric is welcome back, for I must live by my standards of freedom, I will never engage him in these lower topics. I would rather let him live in the Hell of his own making.
