techxprt, the Internet Protocol (IP) is a universal standard for handling digital information on the internet. IP telephony translates voice, fax, or graphics analog input into a digital packets of data and sends them to a distant computer using the Internet to transport the data. The digital packets are re-assembled at the other end and translated back to a graphic or audio signal which can then be delivered over standard telephone lines.

Thru DGIV's IntraVoice gateway, a person on the street just needs to use the POTS (plain old telephone system) to make a phone call. The person doesn't have to be concerned with computers. It is all transparent to the phone user. DGIV is not Vocaltec. Vocaltec's software makes it simple for you to place voice and video calls from your home computer to others around the world for the cost of your Internet connection. DGIV shields the phone user from the intricacies of making a phone call thru the internet. All you need is your phone. Let the other companies duke it out in continental US. DGIV is for the rest of the world.
