I worked with a sub of Nortel about 25 years ago & have followed the company at a close distance since then - headquarters are about 3 miles from my home.

My feeling FWIW is that Nortel will have quite a time swallowing Bay. Chambers of Cisco thinks so too (OK he has more than a passing interest!) I find Mr. House's avowal of a love-in with Nortel management is patently ridiculous. Although Nortel is a fine world-class telecomms company, its culture is a lot more restrained than that of the Valley (we're Canadians after all eh) & culture is one of the most important factors in a merger.

I suspect that the latest fall off, which is atypical of Nortel stock action, is the result of Bay shareholders deciding to jump ship. It is probably psychologically easier to hang on to a stock you have owned for some time when it falls back than one which you are just getting to know. I don't think it has anything to do with Canada - except the Cdn $ has appreciated by 5% over the last two weeks, which would actually increase the US$ price

I would probably be buying - if I traded in my CSCO - which I do not plan to do!
