While I agree with the professor it doesn't matter what all the law professors say. The constitution deliberately didn't define what "high crimes and misdemeanors" means, so it's up to congress to decide. The court system is not involved. It is a fact that at least 2 federal judges were impeached and expelled from office for offenses that were not indictable. If you want to find out what the phrase means, ignore lawyers and go back to the writings of the framers of the constitution. I haven't researched this thoroughly (why bother, I don't get to vote) but my limited reading indicates that the term misdemeanor was broader in in the 1700's than it is today. The original definition is what should apply today. Also, everybody seems to forget that there is more Starr report coming.
I agree with you that perjury is an offense that could be impeachable. I'm not sure whether actually evicting him from office is wise or not. I'm reasonably sure the House will vote for it, but I doubt if 2/3 majority can be reached in the Senate. I would hope he would spare the nation the ordeal ,but he thinks rules don't apply to him. How can the public continue to be fooled by a man who claims to be sorry and asks forgiveness on one hand, but on the other hand through his lawyers continues to deny he did anything wrong? What a hypocrite.
His hubris is his downfall. With the cooperation of a fawning and gullible media he has lied almost daily for years and gotten by with it. He just couldn't break the habit when he was under oath.
