I really appreciate the feedback from everyone and am digesting the info at bxboards.pair.com...a lot there, esp. re: RAM. (Great site that I hadn't seen before.) Altho the 300A doesn't require PC100 ram I was planning to install it only for the sake of allowing for upgrading to a faster PII in the future, should the need arise, w/o having to replace memory. Frankly I don't know if this will be a need but I have no idea what software will be out in another year+ and was taking a "be prepared" attitude. If this isn't a sound approach for any reason then I'd like to know. From Dave's experience it does sound like I don't have to get "name brand", i.e. more expensive memory as long as the chips are high quality.

The 7200rpm Maxtor is exactly the unit I meant, altho all the vendor's I've looked at list this model as the Maxtor Stealth rather than DiamondMax 2500. Are there 2 such models or is a model name change going on???

And finally, thanks for feedback re: power. Here too, all the vendors I'm finding indicate they supply a 235watt unit with the InWin FT ATX case, not 250. This isn't much difference but if it's important please let me know and I'll continue looking.

These subtle differences in what's being advertised/discussed/sold certainly add to the rearend pain, but I'm almost there I think.

Dave
