Del,
Well, I guess we got it nailed. Let's go! But, hmmm, 8 out of a couple hundred billion stars. What are the chances they even have planets much less with anything resembling life? If, by the extremely remote chance there were life, it would have to be capable of at least radio technology, I would imagine, to be detectable. Then there's that nanoship thing. Then there's that half the speed of light thing. Then there's that slingshot around something not even sure is even there or what its mass might be and therefore couldn't calculate what I would guess for a very low mass nanoship must be an extremely delicate trajectory or it would just get pulled in thing. Your children's children's children's children's.... I just hope my taxes don't go up for this project. Let New Zealand do it. Besides, as Maurice says, they might not be very nice anyway. That little nanoship wizzing by might be like Tweety Bird saying to Sylvester "Yoohoo, putty tat, follow me back to my doorless cage". And their women/men may be ugly, their food (assuming we're not on the menu) like crap, and their recreational intoxicants depressing. Nope, we're much better off worrying about stocks, our kids, our friends and must I say it, our feelings, and how to keep fire ants out of our shorts.
