Exactly. But in the case of the Pentagon transferral, Monica was actually more like banished, and she desperately wanted to get back to the White House. But Clinton wouldn't let her come back. So absent that, Monica made a very detailed demand, which was a "wish list" of jobs she wanted in the private sector. She detailed the requirements, which included private sector, good pay, creative work environment, good location, etc. At least, Monica did apply a whole lot of pressure on Clinton to "give her a job". In her words, she expected a good job in the private sector as direct compensation for the way "you fucked up my life". That's actually in the Starr Report, exactly those words, and I can find it again for anyone who wants.
But, try as she might, the best Bill could do is have Vernon Jordan get her a Pentagon job, at first. Eventually she landed the offer at Revlon, with the help of VJ calling the CEO. Note that this offer was very hastily retracted when the Tripp tapes story broke. |
