AOL Web Service To Use Cybercash
DULLES, Va. - America Online's Web hosting service, PrimeHost, will incorporate CyberCash's technology for credit card authorization and processing, beginning in 1997, the giant online service says.
PrimeHost, which manages and hosts World Wide Web sites for corporations, will offer its customers secure transactions as well as software that enables customers and merchants to verify each others'
identities with VeriSign's Digital ID.
The service will cost $100 a month for unlimited transactions.
America Online, the world's No. 1 online service with 7 million members, said the new electronic commerce, or e-commerce, service will let merchants take full advantage of the Internet.
AOL said that with CyberCash's technology, secure credit card authorizations will only take seconds, from the shopper's decision to make a purchase to notification of credit approval.
Reston, Va.-based CyberCash is connected to more than 95 percent of U.S. banks and credit card processors, allowing merchants to have their choice of bank accounts.
PrimeHost was established last July and formerly was known as NaviSoft. It currently has over 2,500 customers using PrimeHost and many test users of PrimeHost's Storefront Solution electronic
commerce product.
The Storefront Solution offers "store builder" software, security and verification, unlimited credit card transaction processing and Verisign Digital ID for $300 to set up and $100 a month thereafter.
