Are they still calling us Tigers? I get the feeling that we may be ground up and sold as medicine at any moment, though perhaps I'm just reading too much news.

Overall, I do get the feeling that things on the street are nowhere nearly as bad as they are in newspapers and analysts reports. There is no doubt that there is a slowdown, but the image of economies at a dead stop is simply not accurate (though I haven't talked to many people in Japan or S. Korea).

A friend who has been in Japan for the last 3 years is due in later this week; I'll be down in Manila chatting with him and a mutual friend, an Aussie journalist who specializes in Indonesian affairs. Promises to be an interesting talk; I'll post summaries when I've digested the substance - with these high-calorie conversations that can take a while.
