A description of LSI from the LSI Links page that is of interest. In case anyone forgot - LSI is a different kind of animal from the rest of the semis <g>

(as proof go to any IC distributor and ask to see the LSI Logic products section, then compare with an ADI, STM or any of the other "main-line" semiconductor companies. Same thing is true online when LSI's products may number 20 in TOTAL (all expensive - Atmizer at around $300) while someone like ADI will have maybe 500-1000 different items and many at $0.25 a pop!)

Basically - LSI = few items, expensive
others - many items, cheaper (monopolies such as INTC excluded!)

LSI Logic is very different from main-line semiconductor companies in that it does not offer an extensive catalog of standard parts nor are we able to offer products to all who wish to purchase from us. The nature of our business requires extensive support and involvement,
which in turn, determines the kinds or customers we are capable of engaging with. Therefore, it is important to set appropriate expectations as to the kind of registrant that would qualify for
LSI Links access.

Following is a brief overview of LSI Logic's overall business engagement strategy which guides our acceptance of your LSI Links application:

LSI Logic manufactures very high end custom and semicustom chips for high volume, leading edge electronic product applications. This makes our potential customer base fairly well defined. We stock very few "standard products" and even these are intended for highly specialized applications.

The company employs a targeted marketing strategy (specific customers, segments, applications, production volumes, etc.). If a registrant's criteria falls outside of these parameters, LSI Logic's interest in and ability to support such potential business diminishes greatly.

Customers tend to hand-pick LSI Logic through personal contact or referrals from current customers. The reciprocal is also the case: LSI Logic selects business opportunities it knows it can support well instead of trying to be all things to all potential customers. This mutual selection process is implied by this website registration process.

Our goal is to support existing and qualified prospective customers extremely well using the resources available, rather than trying to cover all possibilites. In some cases, LSI Logic has no local support in certain geographies which means that all registrants from such areas need to be carefully screened to ensure that we will have the proper level of internal staff to support potential emerging business issues.

The company is staffed and organized specifically to handle fully qualified business that meet the above criteria. We are unable, however, to support inquiries or questions from unqualified prospects.
For registrants with academic interest in LSI Logic's products and technologies, we respect the need to share product information and will provide access to LSI Links upon approval of your application.

OUCH!!!!! - the good ole we don't want you, go away, customer is our
enemy speech - just a tad arrogant I'd say - I've always had a feeling that LSI is not very strong at sales - intros like the above don't help change that opinion... <g>
