INFO_DART,
I saw that as well, he would have been fine if he had left that nazi/adolf stuff out. It was a pointless remark, it had no possible gain and we saw the risk....it pushed Bob's hot button and he kicked Charters off.
I will browse for that book at Chapters. In effect we were not altruistically aiding the Bergers, they were known friends and we would have helped any bombed out friend. There was a lot of that in London early in the war. The strange thing is the act of bombing London cost hitler his chance to invade England. It allowed aircraft production to ramp up and the pilots trained in Canada came and flew the planes and finally swept British airspace clean of nazi planes. With no invasion of England the allies could and did stage a landing when and where they chose.
Can you imagine trying to stage an invasion from the USA across the atlantic?, no air cover, long supply chain etc. It was hitlers personal decisions, for which we are eternally grateful, as he played general when he was not, and the allies won the war.
There were many bad decisions made by hitler that really allowed the nazis to lose. On paper they would have won if they had locked up hitler and run the war properly. No london bombing, just bomb the plane and ball bearing factories, invade England, do not invade Russia, make sure zero American ships got sunk by subs, do not attack or kill or hurt Jews and other races in any way.(do not forget that the loss of the Jewish professional class in the holocaust was very harmful to the war effort).,
Well I will not fight WWII all over again, I am glad we won.
