To ALL threadsters;

If you have access to CNN Asia Biz (nightly from 8:30 - 9:00 PM local time in Malaysia) this is a must see for the next three nights. Tonight's program devoted a substantial amount of time to "freedom" of press" issues here in Malaysia.

- Anwar is not allowed to get his story out via any media ( he reportedly has been charged with sedition)

- One newspaper editor and the GM of one TV station were forced to resign PRIOR to Anwar's sacking because they support him.

- the Mad Hatter has total control over all media in Malaysia through a.Internal Security Act; b. Sedition act; c. all media MUST have a license from the gov't d. police have the power to act to "head-off" any untoward efforts at spreading 'rumors' and 'false truths', without authority from anyone.

The following was related by someone who was there.

Anwar held a rally in the Melaka area on Saturday or Sunday evening. It was held in a local park where there are lots of hawker stalls and folks take their kids to play and eat etc. The normally burning lights in the pavilion just happened to malfunction at the time he was to speak. So all hawkers got together with their lamps etc. and the speech went on. Supposedly he mesmerized a crowd of about 10,000 of the faithful.(the formentioned news program had footage of this and it did seem weird with all the campfires headlights etc.) This comes from an Anwar ally who is one of the chosen as in Datuk ..... ...... and is a heavy hitter in the business world in Sha Alam.

Other info; CNN has been forbidden to transmit by satellite any "political sensitive information" (From CNN Asia Biz) Of course the Mad Hatter and his hencemen will decide what is and is not politically sensitive.

One of the CNN international correspondents filed her report from KL tonight. Probably filmed it and drove it to Singapore ;-)

The next two nights will be further information on the legal/political/economic turmoil in Malaysia from Asia Biz. This should be really interesting. Sadly I will be in San Jose on Wed and will not return for a week. I think I will miss some fire-works. (The games are over on Monday and everyone is expecting the hammer to fall shortly thereafter.)

As I sit here on Monday evening typing this I'm being bombarded with Slick Willy and the Mad Hatter.

Think I'll move to China!

regards
to all
bt

PS: It is said that if Anwar stands with the Koran in his hand and says "I didn't do it" its over for the Mad Hatter.
