Every copy of Netware5 that ships includes a 5-user license for Oracle8. Existing Novell users can purchase the 5-user Oracle license for $15 (the cost of the CD, shipping, handling, etc). How do these licenses show up in Oracle's financial statements? Anyone have any knowledge, or even an educated guess. Can Oracle now count every Netware shop as an Oracle8 user?

Back in the days of Oracle V5, they ran a promotion selling the desktop (DOS) version of Oracle for $199. Pretty much everyone bought a copy and there are probably still thousands of copies gathering dust in storage closets throughout corporate IT departments (then again, it was a 1' x 1' x 3' box with some 20 manuals and 30 floppies, good as a shelf for keeping important stuff off of the floor). Does this type of product count in market share calculations?

I'm off to the Larry and Ray show in about an hour. It would be nice to see the market give Larry back some more of the billion(s) he lost on paper. Perhaps an impressive product introduction will help.
