Harry: That was a most interesting article. My personal opinion is that both posters and posting organs, such as SI, Yahoo and raging Bull should be held accountable. While the poster should be accountable for his or her libelous remarks, the organization supplying the forum should be forced to have verifiable information on all that use its service. Where in our Constitution are individuals given the right to defame others in a public forum without repercussion?
I have a proposal for our thread, and any other thread that cares to follow suit. Voluntary disclosure of basic, verifiable personal information. If the poster wishes to remain relatively and innocently anonymous, the disclosure could be made directly to an SI who would then post a "Voluntary Disclosure" comment on that poster's profile.
There are many good people on the FNTN thread and other threads who are committed to seeking truth, have no hidden agenda and try to be responsible in criticism. It has been my experience that often (not always) the posters who do not offer this basic information are the people who, quite simply, should not be trusted. I am not saying ban those who don't supply this basic information (although I would be in favor of such an innovation). With a basic, verifiable profile, at least the rest of us can more easily identify those posters who have the lowest potential for credibility and perhaps help minimize their damage.
Thoughts?
