Brazil shares up 4 pct at midday in thin trade

Reuters, Monday, September 14, 1998 at 13:56

RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept 14 (Reuters) - Brazilian share prices
surged higher in thin trading as Monday afternoon's session
began, dealers said.
"There is nothing particularly special pushing prices up,
just a few more buyers who appeared," one trader said. "Volume
is thin. It will probably stay in the positive range with thin
volume for the rest of the day."
The Bovespa index of the 57 most traded shares was up 4.07
percent at 5618 points at 1405 local/1305 EDT/1705 GMT.
Quotes on the Bovespa are not updating Monday because of a
technical problem.
