Eric, I agree with your comments on the new building, etc. and that they have a lot of financing options without impacting current earnings. It comes down to "pay me now or pay me later". At this point, I think they would be wise to debt finance & pay later. Either way, I also agree that these are conservative investments that are "sure" to appreciate.

However, as an investor, I want my return on assets to be as high as possible. Without going and looking it up, I'm fairly certain that Novell's current ROA is much higher than what you're going to get out of real estate & other "conservative" investments. For my $16,500 worth, I'd like to see them invest cash and reserves in things that yield a higher return, like new revenue streams with high margins (see press release on NetPro Computing for one example at stocksmart.com:8810/ss-news/CX323598.html).
