Dell Factory-Installs Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition

New Factory-Install Program Enables Access to Mainframe Computers Through OnNet Host Suite Software

ROUND ROCK, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 15, 1998-- Dell Computer Corporation (NASDAQ:DELL - news), the world's leading direct computer systems company, announced today that it will install Microsoft Windows NT(R) Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition (NTS/TSE) software on Dell PowerEdge(R) servers in the Dell factory prior to customer delivery.

Dell is the only vendor to offer FTP Software's (a subsidiary of NetManage Inc.) OnNet Host Suite(R) as part of its NTS/TSE Server bundle. OnNet Host Suite allows clients attached to a Dell PowerEdge server running NTS/TSE to tie directly into a mainframe or minicomputer.

Dell will offer the factory installation service on its enterprise- and departmental-class PowerEdge servers. As part of the service, customers receive 30 days of support, which includes dedicated phone assistance to help with the configuration and set up of the server package.

Dell's factory-installation program for NTS/TSE is designed to help customers who deploy Dell PowerEdge servers to multiple geographic locations or smaller businesses without large technical staffs or budgets. NTS/TSE enables older PCs or ''thin clients'' to access the latest Windows-based software, including 16- and 32-bit applications, from a central server. The software is designed to help customers reduce cost and enhance the management of their networks by centrally providing Windows-based applications to diverse desktop hardware.

Typical users of NTS/TSE include large corporate customers who require enhanced levels of network security and management or with users requiring remote access to data and applications. OnNet Host Suite enables these users to also access data and resources on mainframe, midrange and UNIX servers.

Ranked No. 125 among the Fortune 500 companies and No. 363 in the Fortune Global 500, Dell Computer Corporation is the world's leading direct computer systems company, based on revenues of $15.2 billion for the past four quarters. Dell designs, manufactures and customizes products and services to customer requirements and offers an extensive selection of software and peripherals. Information on Dell and its products can be obtained through its toll-free number 800/388-8542 or by accessing the Dell World Wide Web site at www.dell.com.
